This report highlights the sorry state of implementation of legislative measures relating to child labour. In addition, it shows that legislation, though necessary, does not change the social reality. The social reality is often controlled by traditions, prejudices, cultural practices and the self-interests of many people. Only a socially conscious and aware society and a truly committed state can ensure the proper implementation of progressive legislation. The report also aims at highlighting the magnitude of the problem by giving data on number of child workers engages in hazardous occupations, children working in domestic sector despite the ban on child labour, etc. It also provides a narrative of the children working in the domestic sector highlighting their problems in their own words.
