N2  - This report reflects on the discussions that took place during the Amsterdam Child Labour Conference and includes background papers prepared for the Conference by the International Labour Office. The Amsterdam Child Labour Conference, which focused on the most intolerable forms of child labour world-wide, was held on 26 and 27 February 1997. It was organised by the Netherlands government in close collaboration with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and its International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (IPEC). The aim of the conference was to stimulate the global discussion on the measures to put an end to the most intolerable forms of child labour with- out delay, i.e. slavery, forced or compulsory labour, the use of children in prostitution, pornography and the drugs trade, and the employment of children in any type of work that is dangerous, harmful or hazardous or that interferes with their education. Government representatives, mostly at Ministerial level, from 33 countries in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe, representatives of workers' and employers' organizations, representatives of international organizations and Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOS), representatives of working children and other parties actively participated in the discussion.
