It is estimated that by 2050, 60 per cent of the Indian population would be living in urban areas/cities (Livemint, 2016). With the growth of urban population, city infrastructuretransport, housing, waste management and sewerage, quality of air, green public spaces for women, the elderly and children and otherswill be under tremendous pressure. Hence, the government needs to take steps towards making Indian cities systemically viable for its residents, an inclusive space, along with emphasis on environmental suitability. In recent years, Indian cities have been witnessing multiple crises such as air and noise pollution, lack of water, over-crowded settlements. unplanned and unregulated growth of urbanisation.
