Summary, etc | Social Protection is viewed as a cushion against vulnerabilities and deprivation, and as a critical step to increase equality and inclusion. There are different definitions of Social Protection used across the world. According to Asian development bank, social protection can be defined "as a set of policies and programmes designed to reduce poverty and vulnerability by promoting efficient labour markets, diminishing people's exposure to risks and enhancing their capacity to protect themselves from hazards and interruption/loss of income" (Asian Development Bank, 2001). In the study by Thimmappa et al., (2021), Social Protection is described as programmes that offer basic requirements for humans such as food security, healthcare, livelihood, education, and social security. According to Cook & Pincus, (2014), Social Protection began to tackle poverty and low income where policies were introduced to increase standard of living of the disadvantaged sections, improve employment opportunities, and to provide for continued income and safe workspaces. |
