In July 1979, the Government of Maharashtra established a Task Force, chaired by the Secretary of the Industries, Energy, and Labour Department. The primary objective of this Task Force was to conduct surveys on child labor within the state, aiming to furnish valuable data to the National Committee. The town of Ichalkaranji was among the locations selected for in-depth case studies. The Task Force focused on collecting information on the economic background of the town, the working and living conditions of child laborers, and the perspectives and suggestions of knowledgeable individuals within the community, all of which are comprehensively presented in this study.
